About SmileCosts
Dental prices in the United States are one of the last true black boxes in consumer health. The same crown can cost $800 in one office and $2,500 across the street — and most people only find out after they're in the chair. SmileCosts exists to fix that.
What we do
We research and publish realistic price ranges for common dental procedures, explain exactly what drives those prices, and lay out honest ways to pay less. Every guide shows its last update date and cites its sources.
How we build our estimates
Our ranges are compiled from published dental fee surveys, insurer fee schedules, consumer cost databases such as FAIR Health, and price lists that clinics publish openly. Where sources disagree, we show the full realistic range rather than a single misleading average. The full process is described in our editorial policy.
What we will never do
- We don't sell financing. You will never see us push credit cards, loans, or interest-bearing payment plans. Our savings advice is strictly debt-free.
- We don't sell insurance or earn commissions from insurance sign-ups.
- We don't let advertisers touch our numbers. Revenue comes from clearly separated ads and marked partner links — see our advertising disclosure.
Medical review
Our price research is editorial work, not clinical advice. Where a guide has been reviewed by a licensed dentist, that reviewer is named at the top of the article with their credentials. Guides without a named reviewer have not yet been clinically reviewed — and we say so rather than pretend otherwise. Nothing on this site replaces an exam by a licensed dentist; see our medical disclaimer.
